Who We
Are
The Lathrup Village Historical Society (LVHS) was founded
in 1992 by a group of dedicated residents who fought
unsuccessfully to prevent a developer from demolishing
a local landmark—the old Town Hall. A community service
group, we are committed to preserving the rich architectural
heritage of Lathrup Village and specifically preserving two of
our remaining landmarks: Annie Lathrup School and the
House-in-the-Woods.

What We Do
♦ We collect and preserve documents, artifacts, photos,
maps, etc. relating to the
founding and development of
Lathrup Village.
♦ We maintain an Archive Room
in the Municipal Building, where archivist Ben Sweetwine
catalogs items in our collection.
♦ With the Village
Gardeneers, we co-sponsor the biennial Home & Garden Tour that
showcases our historic
community.
♦ We sponsor lectures, workshops, and field trips.
For example:
◊ Michigan Historic Preservation Tax Credits Seminar
◊ Antiques Appraisal Evening
◊ Tour of Cranbrook's Saarinen House
◊ Victorian Cemeteries & Funeral Etiquette
Lecture
◊ Civil War Lecture
◊ Buried Treasures Lecture
◊ Showing by
Lathrup filmmaker Richard Reeves
◊ All About
Lathrup: An Evening with Jerry Stone
◊ And much,
more
♦ Primarily an
educational / service group, we socialize at our Annual Holiday Open
House and other gatherings.
